The Lakeside Oval is located in South Melbourne and was the home ground of the South Melbourne Football Club from their entry into the VFL in 1897 through to 1982. The Lakeside Oval is currently known as the Bob Jane Stadium.
Billy & Jedi discuss South Melbourne's great history being replaced by the round ball and the Grand Prix. Billy recalls Collingwood's John Bourke hitting the ump (see YouTube clip) and the night premiership fought over by the eight teams that missed the finals. He closes by paying tribute to the Lake Premiership that the Saints and Swans competed for.
Details on the Lakeside Oval can be found at Wikipedia and Austadiums. |
